Straight Talk – La Mirada is a non-profit Counseling Agency providing affordable, convenient, quality counseling services to La Mirada residents. Straight Talk offers Individual, Family and Couples Counseling and several Support Group during the week out of La Mirada Community Center.

Sometimes talking about concerns with an understanding counselor can be helpful in working through feelings, recognizing strengths and exploring alternative solutions to problems. Straight Talk is available to help people resolve crises, diminish conflict and heal past hurts. Our goal is to promote self-respect, individual responsibility and healthy interpersonal relationships.

Fees for Counseling

Straight Talk, Inc. has a sliding scale fee ranging from $25/session to $95/session based upon a person’s ability to pay. The fee is set at the initial intake interview session. The intake interview is a $25 flat fee. Each session after the intake interview will be paid at the agreed rate. Straight Talk does accept some insurance plans and will discuss the pros and cons associated with using your insurance.

Current Groups

Anger Management for Teens: A support group to help teens learn effective ways of expressing anger. Ongoing: join anytime. Fee: $15 per session.

Teen Support Group: Weekly support groups for teens to safely share with other teens about relationships, family, school, the future, or anything else that matters. Ongoing: join anytime. Fee: $15 per session.

Parents of Teenagers: A 10-week class that helps you to understand teens and learn more effective ways to deal with them. Topics include: communication, discipline, responsibility, and cooperation. Ongoing: join anytime. Fee: $15 per session.

Parenting Skills Class: A 10-week class focused on helping children develop responsibility, self-discipline, problem solving skills, and self-esteem. Learn to discipline more effectively. Ongoing: join anytime. Fee: $15 per session.

Anger Management for Adults: A support group to help adults learn effective ways of expressing anger. Fee: $15 per session.

Men’s Support Group: A weekly support group for men to find strength by sharing with other men about life’s issues. Fee: $15 per session.

Bereavement Support Group: A support group for those who have lost a loved-one either recently or in the past. Sharing your grief in a safe and caring environment can help in the healing process. Held Tuesdays at 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at the Activity Center. Call to register. Fee: $7.00 per session.

Teen Substance Abuse and Other At-Risk Behaviors: A 10-week class for teens who have experimented with drugs or alcohol. This class is approved by the Court and Probation Departments. Fee: $15.00 per session. Call to register.

Sober Coaching for Parents of Adolescents - A six week group for parents of adolescents to raise awareness of the detrimental effects of drup and alcohol use in adolescents. This class offers real-life, real-time solutions for parents who are dealing with a drug crisis in their family. Held on Mondays from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Facilitator: Myeshia Hammond, MFT Intern and Clarice Muwele, MFT Intern. Class approved by NLMUSD. Fee: $10 per family/per session if adolecent is enrolled in Teen Substance Abuse class. If only parents attend, Fee is $15 per session.

When Men are Victims of Abuse: Survival and Healing Group - A discussion group for men that were victims of physical, emotional or sexual abuse. Participate at your own pace in an understanding and respectful environment. Each group member will be supported in finding personal tools for creating a better life. Held on Tuesdays at 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Resource Center. Facilitator: John Craig, MFT Intern. Please call 562-943-0195 to register.

Spanish Speaking counselors are available to teach Parenting classes and Anger Management Classes in Spanish. Fee: $15 per session.
